Solo Safaris
Travel alone. Never feel lonely.
Your Journey, Entirely on Your Terms
There is a particular freedom in arriving somewhere extraordinary on your own. You choose when to wake, how long to linger at a sighting, and whether the evening calls for a quiet sundowner or conversation by the fire. No compromises, no schedules but your own.
At Munzat Safaris, we design solo journeys across Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda that are seamless, safe and deeply personal. From the moment you land, a private guide, a handpicked camp and a team who know you by name take care of everything, so you can simply be present.
Why Travel Solo in East Africa?
- Total freedom. Your itinerary, your pace, your interests. Stay an extra hour with a leopard, skip the midday drive, or add a walking safari on a whim.
- A deeper connection. Without the chatter of a group, you notice more: the sounds at dusk, the light on the plains, the small details your guide brings to life.
- Effortless company. Camps are naturally social. Shared dinners, fireside stories and warm, attentive hosts mean you are as connected as you wish to be.
- Ideal for passions. Photography, birding, writing, wellness or a milestone trip: a solo safari can be built entirely around what matters to you.
- Safe and well supported. East Africa has a long tradition of welcoming solo travellers, with established lodges, experienced guides and reliable logistics.
Ways to Travel Solo
Solo travel is not one-size-fits-all. We tailor every journey to the kind of traveller you are.
The Private Solo Safari
Your own guide and vehicle for the whole journey. You set the schedule, choose the experiences and enjoy complete flexibility. This is our most popular option, and the most immersive.
The Social Solo Safari
Stay in intimate camps where shared dining tables and communal firesides make meeting fellow travellers easy, while still enjoying private or shared game drives, depending on your preference.
The Solo Woman’s Safari
Thoughtfully planned for women travelling alone, with carefully vetted camps, trusted guides and every detail arranged for comfort and peace of mind. Many of our solo guests are women, and we are happy to share our recommendations frankly.
The Solo Gorilla and Primate Journey
Trek to meet mountain gorillas in Rwanda or Uganda, or track chimpanzees in the forest. Treks are small-group experiences, which makes them a natural fit for solo travellers.
The Milestone Solo Journey
A birthday, a retirement, a fresh start. We craft special touches, from private dinners to celebratory surprises, that make the occasion unforgettable.
Where to Go
Kenya: Masai Mara, Amboseli and Laikipia. Kenya is wonderfully easy for first-time solo travellers, with short flights from Nairobi, a rich safari culture and private conservancies that offer walking safaris, night drives and exceptional guiding. Laikipia is superb for rare species and quiet, unhurried days.
Tanzania: Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Vast landscapes, year-round wildlife and the Great Migration. Smaller camps in the Serengeti offer warm, personal service and a wonderful sense of space.
Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park. Compact, safe, beautifully organised and unforgettable. Rwanda is perfect for a short, powerful solo trip centred on gorilla trekking, and it combines easily with a Kenya or Tanzania safari.
Uganda: Bwindi, Kibale and Queen Elizabeth. Gorillas, chimpanzees, tree-climbing lions and lush, varied scenery. Uganda suits adventurous solo travellers who want more than a classic game-drive safari.

Experiences for the Solo Traveller
- Private game drives. Your own vehicle and guide, with no one else’s timetable to follow.
- Sunrise hot-air balloon flights. Float over the plains and land to a champagne breakfast in the bush.
- Walking safaris. Slow down and learn the smaller stories of the bush, from tracks and dung to medicinal plants.
- Photography with a specialist guide. Learn to capture light, movement and character.
- Cultural encounters. Spend time with Maasai communities and meet the people who protect this landscape.
- Conservation experiences. Visit rhino sanctuaries, support community projects and see the work behind the wildlife.
- Private bush dinners. A table for one, or the company of your guide, beneath a canopy of stars.
- Spa and wellness time. Many camps offer massages, yoga and quiet spaces to restore.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to go on safari alone?
Yes. A safari with a reputable operator is one of the safest ways to travel. You are accompanied by experienced guides, stay in secure camps and have support throughout your journey. We will also brief you on health, safety and local etiquette before you travel.
Will I feel lonely?
Most solo guests find the opposite. Camps are small and sociable, guides are excellent company, and you can choose how much interaction you want. If you would like to meet other travellers, we can recommend camps with shared dining and communal spaces.
What about the single supplement?
Many camps charge more for single occupancy, which is common in the safari industry. We work to reduce or avoid this wherever we can, by choosing properties and travel dates with favourable solo rates and, where suitable, sharing vehicles. We’ll be upfront about costs when we plan your trip.
Can I travel solo on a budget?
Luxury is our focus, but we can often find good-value options, such as travelling in the green season, using shared vehicles for part of your trip, or choosing properties that waive or reduce solo supplements.
Is it suitable for first-time safari-goers?
Absolutely. A solo safari is a wonderful way to experience Africa for the first time. We handle the planning and logistics, so you can relax and enjoy it.
Can I join a group for part of the trip?
Yes. You can mix private and shared experiences. Gorilla trekking, for instance, takes place in small groups, while game drives can be private or shared.
Is solo travel suitable for women?
Yes, and many of our solo guests are women. We select properties and guides with great care and are happy to talk through any concerns before you book.
How far ahead should I book?
For peak seasons, including July to October and the Christmas period, we recommend booking 9 to 12 months ahead. For other times, 4 to 6 months is usually sufficient.
