Itinerary
This journey pairs two of Kenya's most celebrated landscapes. In Amboseli, you watch elephants walk beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, and in the Masai Mara you stay beside the river that draws the Great Migration. A private conservancy camp and one of the Mara's original safari camps give you a real sense of place, while your Munzat host looks after every detail.
After you land, a short shared transfer takes you to Crowne Plaza Nairobi, just minutes from the airport. You stay here for one night, which makes it a restful way to begin. The hotel has a rooftop pool and bar, a gym and a spa, and several places to eat. Kitchen 9 serves buffet meals through the day, Aroma coffee shop is open around the clock for a late snack, and Velocity Bar is the place for a local beer or an evening cocktail.
You will be driven privately from the hotel to the airfield, then fly to Amboseli. Your guide meets you on arrival and takes you to Elerai Camp, set on a private conservancy just outside the national park. Every guest room looks over Mount Kilimanjaro, with a private balcony and a daybed where you can watch the mountain change with the light. In the afternoon, head out on your first game drive.
Amboseli is famous for its elephants, and the herds here are among the most impressive in Africa. You also have a good chance of lion, leopard and buffalo, along with smaller mammals and a rich variety of birds. Your guide plans drives around the light and the animals, so you are in the right place at dawn and in the late afternoon. Elerai is a comfortable, eco-friendly camp with a strong sense of authenticity, and it keeps close ties with the neighbouring Maasai community. Meet local families and learn how to light a fire, how plants are used as medicine and how to survive in the bush.
Today you travel to the Masai Mara, Kenya's most famous reserve. You will stay at Governors' Camp, one of the Mara's original safari camps, hidden in riverine forest on the banks of the Mara River. After lunch, there is time to settle in and a first drive in the late-afternoon light.
Few camps are better placed for wildlife. The river below is full of birdlife, hippos and crocodiles, and elephants often pass right by the camp. The camp also sits close to the famous crossing points of the Great Migration, which makes it a superb base from July to October, when the herds gather on the banks and cross the river. Crossings can't be promised, as the herds follow the rains, but your guide will keep you flexible and close to the action.
Days are built around game drives, one early in the morning and one late in the afternoon, with a relaxed break at camp in between.
After a final morning in the Mara, you will return to Nairobi for your onward flight. If you would like to stay longer, we can add a beach stay on the coast, a conservancy stay or extra nights in Nairobi.
